MEET GRAHAM

Twelve years' practice. A degree in why.

I'm Graham. I live in Black Torrington, I answer the phone, and I don't drive forty minutes to quote. My practice combines twelve years of tree-surgery fieldwork with a formal Foundation Degree in Ecology and Conservation Management and the Lantra Professional Tree Inspector qualification.

That combination matters most when the work is sensitive — a tree under a TPO, a specimen in a conservation area, a hedge removed outside the nesting season, or a mortgage survey for a prospective buyer. It also matters for the everyday — because the same training that lets me write a BS3998-compliant specification for a protected oak is the training that lets me specify the right crown-reduction cut on a garden apple.

I work for domestic clients, serviced accommodation, holiday-let owners, and commercial estates across Torridge and West Devon. Branded quotes and before-and-after documentation on every contract.

WHAT GRAHAM DOES

Tree surgery and grounds maintenance, ecology-informed.

The full arborist and grounds-maintenance stack — from BS3998-spec'd crown reductions through to seasonal grass cuts. Each one written with the same care your trees deserve.

  • Tree reductions

Crown reduction specified to retain the tree and reduce wind-load — considered against species character and BS3998 specifications.

  • Tree pruning

Structural and formative pruning — BS3998 compliant on TPO and conservation-area specimens.

  • Tree shaping

Amenity and orchard shaping — long-view maintenance of mature specimens.

  • Tree removals

Felling and dismantling — ecology-informed, bat and nesting-bird season respected.

  • Hedge cutting

Maintenance cuts and reshapes — native hedgerow, amenity beech, conifer.

  • Grass cutting

Regular cuts — domestic lawns, paddocks, serviced accommodation, estate grounds.

  • Weeding

Manual weeding — beds, borders, drives. Selective retention of beneficial species where desired.

  • Weed spraying

    Spot-treatment on hard surfaces — ecology-informed, minimal-drift application.

  • General maintenance

Seasonal work and one-off commissions — from storm clear-up to end-of-season tidies.

Quotes are free for domestic work and include a branded PDF with photos and a written scope. Commercial commissions return as a written specification before site visit.

ECOLOGY-INFORMED WORKS

For the trees that deserve considered work.

Works on trees under a Tree Preservation Order, or in a Conservation Area, require a formal notification to the Local Planning Authority. I prepare the notification, liaise with the Tree Officer, and work to BS3998:2010 specifications. Felling and heavy reductions are planned around nesting-bird and bat seasons — not on them. Branded quote and ecology note supplied before every contract.

I hired Graham for maintenance on an overgrown front and rear garden, and I couldn't be more pleased with the service. From the initial contact to the completion of the job, he was thoroughly professional. His quotes and invoices were branded and included before-and-after photos, which added a really nice touch. Since the property is a serviced accommodation, it was important that the work didn't disrupt any guests—and Graham handled everything independently, with petrol-powered equipment.
